Little Felix, Be not Afraid

Ok, this was idea.

"TAAAAAMIIIII!"

Calhoun woke with a start at his voice, running into Felix' room the moment she heard him scream as if a cy-bug had somehow entered his room.

Felix was curled up under the covers in a little ball, sobbing as the thunder and lightning raged outside the arcade.

"Fix-it? What's wrong, babe?" she said, concerned, yet relieved to find his room bug-free.

Felix sat up and poked his head out of the covers. Tears stained his face, his eyes sunken, his body quivering with fear as well as shivvering due to fever. He looked pathetic, mostly because he was sick, which was why Calhoun was there to take care of him. "I'm scared, Tami! I don't like thunderstorms! They're so loud, and especially the lightning... What if the lightning hits near here and causes a power-outage that's too much for Surge Protector?" Felix cried worriedly. Another thunderclap sounded, causing Felix to jump a little, "Besides...Everything looks so dark and scary outside...And it looked like there was a cy-bug or somethin' out there at one point..." Felix started coughing and Calhoun protectively put her arms around him. "'course, I probably imagined that..."

"Maybe..." Calhoun said, picking him up to look out the window. She saw the game screen, New Niceland, the woods, but as far as she could tell, Nice-land was completely safe.

Lightning flashed again, and Felix burrowed in to her. "The thunder woke me up." the little man said, "I'm sorry to wake you up Tami, i really am...but I'm just so scared...

Calhoun smiled and stroked his back, "Aw, it's ok, honeyglow...I told ya I was here if ya needed me."

"I know..." Felix said, "It's just...I woke you up, and I really shouldn't have, after all you've done for me, me bein' sick and all..." Felix wipped his eyes, tears still streaming down his little face, his eyes red from fatigue as well as tears. "I just don't want to die, for real, and I don't want Ralph, or Vanellope, and...and...Q*Bert, and...and...and..." Felix began to sob all over her tank-top, but Calhoun couldn't care less about her shirt being wet, as long as Felix needed a shoulder to cry on and her to hug him tight like she was doing now. "Shhhh...It's alright, Felix. I'm here, I've got ya. I promise, no one's going to die. Now, you need to go to sleep, Fix-it. That'll help everything." she cooed, "You're sick, and you're tired, and..."

"But Tami," Felix sobbed, "I can't sleep! I'm too scared!"

"Shhhhh..." Calhoun said, making her arms into a cradle for Felix as he held him close, rocking slowly as she began to sing:

Felix's sobbing slowed and stopped, listening to her as she sang.

makes the beautiful world that you'll see

Calhoun watched as Felix steadily relaxed and his eyelids began to droop as he rested his head on her shoulder, his arms next to his head. "Jiminy, you have a pretty voice...Thank you, Tami." Felix mumbled drowsily, eyes getting increasingly hard to keep open as he tried to listen to her sweet lullaby. Calhoun blushed. It wasn't often someone said that about her, and she loved it when he did. She knew she wasn't the best singer, but she did like singing to Felix. She smiled tenderly as she continued...

Felix' eyes slid shut for the final time and he nuzzled her with his cheek. Calhoun smiled even bigger as she kissed his cheek and moved on,


for you know, once even I was a
little child, and I was afraid
but a gentle someone always came
to dry all my tears, trade sweet sleep for fears
and to give a kiss goodnight

well now I am grown
and these years have shown
that rain's a part of how life goes
but it's dark and it's late
so I'll hold you and wait
'til your frightened eyes do close

and I hope that you'll know...


Calhoun slowly set him back down on the bed, wanting to savor the moment of holding him.


everything's fine in the morning
the rain'll be gone in the morning


She tucked him in, making sure he was snug and warm


but I'll still be here in the morning....


Tamora picked up his hammer and handed it to him, watching him grab it in his little arms like it was a teddy bear, and kissing and caressing his exposed cheek.

"I love ya, Felix." she whispered, "And I promise, I'm never going to let ANYTHING hurt you as long as I live."

She stayed there for a while, watching Felix sleep, an rubbing his arm. Finally, she tried to get up to head back to her bed on the couch, but Felix put his hand on hers, mumbling "Tami...please...don't go..."

She stopped and looked back at him. He still looked pathetic and vulnerable, and the pleading tone in his voice made her heart ache for him. 'Ugh, Tamora. What a huge softie you're turnin' out to be.' She thought to herself. She was still the toughest person in the arcade, but she was a softie when it came to Felix.

Not that she minded in the least.

"Oh, alright." she said, curling up in the decidedly too small bed, wrapping her arms tight around Felix, who held her and sighed happily in his sleep.

"You're gonna be the death of me, Fix-it..." she chuckled as she laid her head on his pillow.
